Apéro Advanced French Conversation Group

Bonjour à tous! Are you looking for a way to practice your French conversation skills and connect with other Francophiles? Look no further than the free Apéro National French Conversation Group held by the Federation of Alliances Françaises USA. This weekly event is a great opportunity for members of Alliance Française d'Austin to engage in casual French conversation and meet new people from different regions and backgrounds.

What is an apéro, you may ask? In France, an apéro is a pre-dinner drink and snack that is meant to be enjoyed with friends and family. It is a time to unwind and socialize, and it typically involves light bites such as olives, cheese, and charcuterie, as well as a glass of wine or other beverage.

At the Apéro National French Conversation Group, participants are invited to enjoy their favorite beverage during the conversation. Whether you prefer a glass of wine, a cup of tea, or a bottle of sparkling water, grab your favorite drink and settle in for an hour of French conversation with like-minded individuals.

The group is open to high-intermediate to advanced (or fluent) speakers who are current members of an Alliance Française chapter in the United States. Native speakers are also welcome to join in the conversation. However, note that the group is not a substitute for taking a French class. Conversation groups are for informal practice and for sharing the joy of conversing in French with other Francophiles or Francophones.

The group meets every Wednesday via Zoom, and the conversation is held from 5:00 PT / 7:00 pm CT / 8:00 pm ET to accommodate the after-work Apéro theme. The group is hosted by a member of the Federation of Alliances Françaises board, Linda Witt. Attendees are assigned to breakout rooms of 4-5 people, with each breakout session lasting 14 minutes. The rooms are then recreated for a different mix each time. This structure ensures that participants get to chat with a variety of people and practice their conversation skills with different levels of fluency.

To participate in the Apéro National French Conversation Group, you will need to use Zoom. If you are not yet a member of the Alliance Française d'Austin, you can sign up here to gain access to this and other great resources for Francophiles in the Austin area.

So grab your favorite beverage, and join the conversation every Wednesday for an hour of fun, informal French practice with other Francophiles across the country. À votre santé!
