Alliance Française d’Austin (AFA) is part of the acclaimed international Alliance Française network that was founded in Paris in 1883, and shares its values of freedom, education, and intellectual innovation. There are more than 800 Alliance Française chapters worldwide that serve more than half of a million members and students. Alliance Française d’Austin is part of a network that is recognized around the world as the leader and gold standard in providing effective French language instruction and enriching French-themed cultural events, with a focus on understanding and speaking the language in a relaxed setting.

Though it is part of a bigger network, AFA is a proud, local, self-financed non-profit organization that has served the Austin community for more than 50 years. The mission of Alliance Française d’Austin is to encourage the study and appreciation of French language and Francophone cultures, and to promote and share the language and cultures of the French-speaking world in our community. We do this through our online group classes and private classes taught by native French speakers, and our in-person and online workshops, conversation exchanges, and cultural events.

Our Strategic Framework has three primary objectives: Communication, Culture, & Connection

Objective 1 - Communication - Alliance Française d’Austin offers a comprehensive catalog of French language classes that serves the interest of the AFA community.

Objective 2 - Culture - Alliance Française d’Austin offers opportunities for engagement related to Francophone cultures to AFA students, AFA members, and the community at large.

Objective 3 - Connection - Alliance Française d’Austin establishes connections of mutual support with other French and Francophone cultural organizations and programs that share in the vision, mission, and values of AFA.
