His investigations uncover clues to a life that seems to stop during World War II. Roland learns that his real name is Jimmy Stern, a Jewish Greek man who was living in Paris under an assumed name. With his memory partially back, Guy Roland goes to look for his friend Freddie. At the end of the novel Roland is about to follow the last clue that might unlock his past: an address on a street in Rome, the Via della Botteghe Obscure, where Jimmy Stern lived throughout the 1930s.  Author Patrick Modiano is the recipient of the 2014 Nobel Prize for Literature. Join Club de Lecture at 2:00pm in the Board Room at Genuine Joe’s Coffee Shop on March 23rd.

AFA Ciné-club and AFS Cinema Partner Screening: LE MAGNIFIQUE - by Philippe de Broca

AFA Ciné-club is partnering with the Austin Film Society to bring four great Jean-Paul Belmondo films to you in July.  In the 1973 film LE MAGNIFIQUE, Belmondo reunites with director Philippe de Broca in this multifaceted comedy about a pulp fiction writer who can barely eke out a living, whose love life is a mess and who fantasizes endlessly about the adventures of reckless spy Bob Sinclair, the hero of his novels. The film spins between the mundane life of the novelist and the jet-setting adventures of the novelists' imaginary spy, with witty and revealing results. With Jacqueline Bisset as the woman “both” men are striving to impress.

See LE MAGNIFIQUE July 27th at AFS Cinema.  LE MAGNIFIQUE tickets are available here.  Current AFA members will receive a discount code via email for $2 off each ticket purchased. Not yet a member? Become an Alliance Française of Austin member to receive the discount code, and join us for fast and fun LE MAGNIFIQUE on Friday July 27th at 7pm.
