100 years ago in 1918 on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month the guns of World War One fell silent. World War One was over. November 11th is Armistice Day, the day that marks the end of the First World War. This year November 11th marks the 100th year anniversary of WWI's end. In Austin this Sunday morning Nov 11th, Alliance Française invites you to be present on the south steps of the Texas Capitol as twelve American WWII Veterans receive the Medal of Knight in the French Order of the Legion of Honor from Consul General of France, Alexis ANDRES. This honor and special ceremony will close Austin's 2018 Veterans Day Parade & Celebration. AF Ciné-club and the Austin Film Society partner in November to present two screenings of the 1977 film PEPPERMINT SODA (Diabolo Menthe). From French writer-director Diane Kurys comes a semi-autobiographical coming-of-age story set in France in the fall of 1963. A pair of teenage sisters grow up together with their divorced mother in 1960’s Paris as the world changes around them in this gentle telling film. Don’t miss this classic spot-on tale of growing up. Eleni is a chambermaid in a hotel on the island of Naxos. Eleni is in her forties and her life is dreary. AFA's Salon de Conversation meets the 2nd Saturday of each month from 11:00-12:15. On November 10th, participants will asked to converse about why they study French and to describe the methods they use to improve their knowledge, vocabulary and fluency. AFA's 2nd Saturday Salon de Conversation is guided by native French speakers. Assistance & practice will be offered at beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels - all Alliance Française of Austin members at all levels of proficiency are welcome to attend.

On June 23rd AFA's Club de Lecture will meet to discuss the novel Le Petit Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Moral allegory and spiritual autobiography, The Little Prince is the most translated book in the French language. With a timeless charm it tells the story of a little boy who leaves the safety of his own tiny planet to travel the universe, learning the vagaries of adult behaviour through a series of extraordinary encounters. Alliance Française d'Austin presents Festinema, a French film festival for youth ages 4-18 through April 5
In celebration of Le Mois de la Francophonie, Alliance Française of Austin presents FESTINEMA, a French film festival that encourages children and young adults to see foreign films and encourages active appreciation of cinema. Between March 8th and April 5th AFA will provide age-appropriate French film screenings to 200+ Austin and Central Texas students in schools around the city. Information about the 2018 Festinema program, films to be offered, and accompanying educational materials can be found HERE. Festinema is an annual nationwide film festival and educational program designed for children and adolescents. Festinema was created by the United States Alliance Française network. The Festival is part of Kids Trail, a program initiated by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the United States, and by the FACE Foundation. Now in its fifth year, Festinema encourages learning and understanding of international cultures through cinema. AFA is proud to offer Festinema to connect Austin-area youth to French language and Francophone cultures.

For this landmark of feminist filmmaking, established starlet Sandrine Bonnaire signed on to play a hopeless, itinerant youth stuck on the fringe of society. Bonnaire’s frightening performance challenged expectations of what young women could do and be as leading ladies.

The AFA Library offers AFA members the opportunity to check out materials appropriate for all levels of French proficiency. The Alliance Française Book & Bake Sale will feature French pastries from our partner Pâtisserie à la carte, cakes, cookies, and holiday candies, along with gently-used books en français. Pick up a gift and a treat on December 3rd. AFA's Book & Bake Sale will be held in Suite 106 at the Alliance Française building located at 4101 Medical Parkway.

Alliance Française of Austin invites you to participate in the Saturday May 6th AFAustin Mixed Doubles Tennis Tournament at Pharr Tennis Center in north central Austin. This round robin tournament is family-friendly and will offer play appropriate for all. Groups will be organized by skill-level with no direct elimination. There are many prizes to win thanks to AFA partner and one of Austin's best local tennis stores The Tennis Shop, as well as the internationally-recognized racquet sports giant Babolat.
This is a mixed double tournament - sign up in pairs or if you don't have a partner, Alliance Française of Austin will assign a partner for you. AFA's Mixed-Doubles Tournament will be great exercise, great fun, and a great way to get to know friends who share an interest in tennis! Registration TODAY for the May 6th Tournament.
