AFA Club de Lecture meets the fourth Saturday of each month at 2:00pm at the Arboretum location of La Madeleine French Café. It is recommended that participants have at least an intermediate level of French proficiency to join book discussion. All members are welcome to attend and listen. Book Club members supply their own books. Club de Lecture is open to AFA members whose names appear on the current member list. On March 24th AFA's Club de Lecture will meet to discuss L'élégance du hérisson by Muriel Barbery, a story that darts between a 54-year-old concierge in a Parisian luxury apartment building named Renée Michel, and a wealthy precocious 12-year-old girl named Paloma who lives in the building. Residents would be scandalized if they knew they're plain and lonely concierge led a cultured life filled with Tolstoy, Mahler, and Japanese cinema.
Clever, informative and moving, L'élégance du hérisson provides a crash course in philosophy interwoven with a platonic love story. Become an AFA member and join us for Club de Lecture on March 24th at 2:00pm to discuss this acclaimed work.
